Raphael Machiels

Raphael Machiels joined Bonhams as an Associate Specialist in 2024 in the European Ceramics department after working for a leading New York dealer in eighteenth-century porcelain. Prior to specializing in decorative arts, he worked for a contemporary design gallery in London. In addition to working in the art market, Raphael has undertaken research projects for cultural institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and Musée Carnavalet, Paris.

He holds a B.A. in Art History from Leiden University and a M.A. in the History of Decorative Arts, Design, and Material Culture from the Bard Graduate Center and is fluent in French and Italian.
