
Emma Sykes
Emma Sykes is General Manager and Picture Specialist for Bonhams Bath, where she has been based since 2006. She previously worked at Bonhams Chester saleroom, having joined the company in 1997.
Emma is responsible for picture valuations across the whole of the South West of England and South Wales, with specialist experience across all categories including Old Master paintings, 19th century paintings, Impressionist and modern art, modern British art, post-war and contemporary art and prints. She works closely with the international specialist departments to provide an expert valuation service at a local level.
In her role, Emma has sourced exceptional items from the Bath region including two important works by the School of London artist Frank Auerbach - J.Y.M and Debbie Ratcliff III, which sold for £560,000 and £620,000 (hammer price) respectively; an exceptional private collection of 19th century art which included seven works by the Orientalist master Ludwig Deutsch, sold for a total of £3,171,000; and a pair of rediscovered portraits by George Romney of Elizabeth Burgoyne and her husband, Montagu, which sold for £260,000 and £20,000 (hammer price) respectively.
Emma holds a degree in Italian and French studies from the University of Reading.
