Boston – A three-liter 1971 bottle of Domaine de la Romanee Conti La Tache achieved exceptional results when it sold for $106,000, more than twice its estimate, at Bonhams Skinner's Fine Wine auction which closed on April 26. The bottle was one of a limited number of three-liter bottles La Tache produced and was purchased for only $250 in the late 70s from a well-known San Francisco wine retailer.
The sale overall achieved $772,000 with 95% sold by lot and 98% sold by value.
Additional sale highlights include:
• 6 bottles of 2005 Domaine de la Romanee Conti Grands Echezeaux sold for $22,500.
• 12 bottles of 2000 Chateau Lafite Rothschild sold for $15,000.
• 12 bottles of 1998 Chateau Margaux sold for $7,500, two times its estimate.
• A bottle of 1860 Henriques & Henriques Grand Old Boal sold for $5,625, more than four times its estimate.
• 3 bottles of 2019 Screaming Eagle sold for $10,600, two times its low estimate.
• A bottle of 1795 Terrantez from an unknown producer sold for twice its estimate at $6,875.
