Paintings by Montague Dawson (1980-1973) from the collection of Sir Frank Williams, founder of the Williams Formula One team, lead Bonhams Marine Sale in London on Tuesday 25 October. Among the highlights is The rising wind: on deck aboard the Ethiopian estimated at £60,000-80,000.
Bonhams Marine Art specialist, Alistair Laird, said: "Montague Dawson is regarded as one of the finest marine painters of the 20th century. His abilities to capture the excitement and perils of life in a sailing ship and, in particular, the speed and exhilaration of clippers racing across the high seas are highly prized and were no doubt what attracted Frank Williams to his work".
Sir Frank Williams (1942-2021) founded the Williams Racing One team in 1977 and was its principal until 2020. Under his leadership, the team won seven drivers' championships and nine constructors' championships.
