Impressive Results for Bonhams Pop x Culture Sale in London

London – Bursting with all things 'pop', Bonhams Pop x Culture sale achieved impressive results at New Bond Street, London yesterday (Thursday 11 November). The top lot was the print Girl with Balloon, 2004, by Banksy, which sold for £119,000, closely followed by the print Mick Jagger, from Mick Jagger Portfolio, by Pop pioneer Andy Warhol – which sold for £106,550, against an estimate of £25,000 - 35,000.

The 100-lot cross-departmental sale, which featured an array of contemporary art, prints, entertainment memorabilia and fashion pieces all relating to pop and street art, made a total of £1,653,765, with 82% sold by lot and 97% sold by value.

Laetitia Guillotin, Co-Head of Sale, commented: "We are delighted with the results of yesterday's sale, which proved that 'Pop' certainly has not lost any of its universal appeal. It is always exciting to offer such a variety of items under a common theme, and this sale clearly attracted the attention of the bidders – with pop prints and Banksy continuing to achieve particularly impressive results. It was hugely exciting to see the De La Soul concept artwork far exceed pre-sale expectations, which highlights the new emerging hip-hop market which Bonhams is keen to develop."
