Going For Gold
Sport-Themed Handbags by Louis Vuitton At Bonhams Luxury Online Sale

Coinciding with Olympics week, Bonhams Luxury Online sale presents a series of four brand new and never-been-used sport-themed items by Paris fashion house Louis Vuitton. The sale is now live on bonhams.com through 3 August.

In 2014, Louis Vuitton called upon six forward-thinking artists and designers to reinterpret pieces of fashion and art involving the brand's monogram. Karl Lagerfeld, one of the company's collaborators, created the iconic sporty boxing collection with elegance. World-renowned for his significant roles as the Creative Director of Chanel, Fendi and of his own eponymous fashion label, Karl Lagerfeld was arguably the most powerful name in fashion. Made with the classic Monogram canvas, the series is a true rarity for the brand. On offer in the online sale are a Limited Edition Monogram Iconoclast Boxing Gloves and Case (estimate: HK$48,000- 65,000) and Punching Bag PM (estimate: HK$18,000-22,000), both including an original padlock, keys, a luggage tag and dust bags.

Football fans will take delight in a special football designed to commemorate the World Cup in France in 1998. This limited edition is made from Louis Vuitton's signature monogram canvas with a leather strap holder, and was presented as a gift to artists, celebrities, and politicians. It carries an estimate of HK$15,000-18,000 and comes with a dust bag and a photo album Rebonds, featuring over 200 famous personalities with this special item – the profits of which went to UNICEF. A different edition of the same soccer ball was spotted being carried by renowned singer Rihanna at a UEFA Champions League match in Italy in 2019.

Humphrey Cheung, Bonhams Designer Handbag Specialist, commented: "There's no better time than the Olympics week to explore the sporty side of the designer accessories world. These items by Louis Vuitton are commemorative and capture the athletic spirit in refined elegance. They will surely ignite international bidding competition no less fierce than the games broadcast this week."

Humphrey Cheung has been appointed Bonhams Designer Handbags Specialist. Based in Hong Kong, he is a new addition to the global Designer Handbags and Fashion team launched last year, responsible for business getting and client development in Asia. Launched in January 2020, Bonhams Designer Handbags and Fashion department is led by Meg Randell, presenting six dedicated live and online sales every year and two cross-category sales in the UK, Europe and Hong Kong, offering luxury pieces from extensive single-owner collections of couture fashion and limited-edition handbags and accessories to historical Steamer trunks. Notable offerings include a dedicated Chanel sale in Knightsbridge and an Hermès Birkin handbag formerly owned by Jane Birkin, the English actress who inspired its creation.

Meg Randell, Head of Designer Handbags and Fashion, commented: "We are delighted to welcome Humphrey to the team. His appointment reflects the strength and growth of our operations into Asia which is a traditionally strong and important region for the luxury market, especially designer handbags."
