A Wood Netsuke of Raijin Bathing with a Woman
Edo period (1615-1868), 19th century
The slightly portly and mischievous-looking Raijin stepping out of the round wooden tub onto a cloud which trails to the sack on his back, the sack also containing his signature drums, a woman sitting in the water-filled tub grasping Raijin's wrist in one hand and his sack in the other, both figures' eyes inlaid in dark horn, signed Suketada in a lozenge-shaped reserve on the bottom of the tub
