Displayed in Richard Simmons's dining room.
Forever a proud son of New Orleans and the French Quarter, Richard Simmons embodied the vibrancy and vitality of his roots. The Simmons family lived in the French Quarter; Simmons first job was selling pralines in his neighborhood and his first neighbors were "exotic dancers and musicians". Even after his rise to fame, he sported multiple Mardi Gras-themed tank tops, and travelled back to the city frequently, not only to visit his family but also to take part in parades and events. He was a supporter of the New Orleans Kiwanis chapter and was active after Hurricane Katrina to provide aid to his hometown. Only the unique melting pot of New Orleans could have produced a star like Simmons, who exuded theatrics, warmth, and pageantry.
