Footnotes

Richard Pryor:
The debut comedy record by Richard Pryor was recorded live in 1968 at the Troubadour in Los Angeles.

The project was a collaboration between Richard Pryor, Gary Burden, Rick Griffin, and Henry Diltz. After the shoot, the photos looked similar to something from National Geographic, so Gary Burden asked Rick Griffin to create the intricate borders similar to that of a National Geographic magazine.

Burden said that as a result of the cover, he received two letters: "One was a letter from the National Geographic Society's attorneys offering to sue me for defaming their publication. The second letter was a Grammy nomination for the best album cover."
