Footnotes

Gifted to Gary Burden by Joni Mitchell as the chosen artwork for Ladies of the Canyon.

Ladies of the Canyon:
The third studio album by the Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell, released on Reprise Records in 1970. The Ladies of the Canyon refer to three real women; Annie Burden (the wife of Gary Burden), Trina Robbins and Estrella Berosini. They were all part of the artistic and musical community that flourished in Laurel Canyon at the time.

Mitchell wrote much of the album at 8217 Lookout Mountain Avenue in Laurel Canyon, the house where she and her partner Graham Nash lived at the time. The album includes several of Mitchell's most popular songs, such as Big Yellow Taxi, Woodstock and The Circle Game.
