"This painting is one of a series I made of planes taking off from and landing at LAX. The location I was observing from was the small park across the street from the In'N'Out near the north runway. The people are other folks and families who congregate there every day to picnic and watch the planes. The painting is a synthesis of that location and the Westchester Parkway with one of my favorite landscape paintings, "Three Great Trees" by Jacob Van Ruisdael that hangs in the Norton Simon Museum."
