Currently living and working in Aspen, CO, Erin Morrison was a longtime resident of Los Angeles, graduating from UCLA's MFA program in 2014. This work is a recently finished piece that was initiated in 2016 for her 2017 solo exhibition, The Letdown, at Ochi Projects.
Excerpt text from 2017 Exhibition:
"In another series the artist pays homage to the great Italian master of sculpture, Gian Lorenzo Bernini, by presenting in relief-form the severed hand of his "Rape of Proserpina". Her fascination with material hierarchies have led to an investigation of faux-finish techniques, patination, and the "finish fetish" tendencies of Light and Space artists. This shifting in time, along with a tendency to isolate her subject, relates a poignant reflection on recurring motifs in visual symbolism."
