Provenance
Christie's, London, British & Old Master Pictures, 1 March 1991, lot 61 (as Francis Stringer)
Thomas Stringer worked in the small market town of Knutsford, Cheshire, specializing in equestrian portraits and hunting scenes. There is some confusion over the artist's first name, often misinterpreted as Francis, given the cursive italic 'T' he used to monogram his works which is easily misread as an 'F'.
