Footnotes

The catalogue raisonné by Ellen G. D'Oench and Jean Feinberg reports that Jim Dine did a quick sketch on a copper plate of his wife Nancy in 1971, but never finished the print.

The plate spent two years on the floor of his studio accumulating numerous scratches and footprints that removed some of the hard ground.

In 1973 Dine retrieved the plate, had it bitten in acid, and eventually had it published in a very limited edition.
