The first with fluted cylinder also forming the barrels, frame and rounded butt, the former signed on one side and with hinged loading gate and folding trigger, the latter with threaded cartridge-extracting rod and chequered rounded grips, and retaining some of its original blueing, Birmingham proof marks; the second with sighted barrel, part octagonal breech engraved with foliage, cylinder with engraved forward edge, frame decorate en suite with the breech, numbered on one side and with hinged loading-gate, cartridge-extracting rod, and chequered rounded grips, Birmingham proof marks
4.5 cm. and 8.3 cm. barrels

Richard Henry Bate is recorded at 97 Steelhouse Lane, Birmingham between 1853 and 1855, when he moved his premises to 132 Steelhouse Lane. He appears to have died or retired by about 1878
