A 32-Bore Wheel-Lock Pistol In Saxon Late 16th Century Style

With swamped two-stage barrel, octagonal breech spuriously dated '1590' on the top flat, the rear of the breech stamped with punched decoration, plain tang, flat lock stamped with a mark, 'PL' crowned, sprung sliding pan cover, and pivoting safety-catch, blackened full stock stamped in imitation of natural staghorn and sparsely inlaid with white staghorn or bone panels engraved with blackened foliate decoration, ball pommel inlaid with a white staghorn or bone roundel engraved with the arms of Saxony and the Hereditary Archmarshalship of the Holy Roman Empire, foliate engraved trigger-plate, ramrod-pipe and fore-end cap engraved with further designs of foliage, and original wooden ramrod with tip en suite with the fore-end cap

This pistol is in the style of those carried by the Trabantan bodyguard of The Elector Christian I of Saxony (r.1560-1591)
