A German 22-Bore Percussion All-Metal Holster Pistol
By Cloeter, Mannheim, Circa 1670-80

Converted from flintlock, with three-stage barrel (shortened), octagonal breech, long curved back-action lock (hammer missing) signed 'CLOETER A MANHEIM' and decorated with foliage, figured steel butt formed in imitation of a spurred pommel (worn), and plain steel trigger-guard

Støckel records four members of the Cloeter (Cleuter) family: Christian, Peter, Jan, and Leonard, all working in present day North Western Germany in the second half of the 17th century. A pair of pistols signed by Jan Cloeter and also formed entirely of steel are preserved in the Tojhusmuseet, Copenhagen, (B904-5).
