Two Headed Cow Sideshow Banner
Fred G. Johnson (American, 1892-1990), for C. Henry Tent & Awning Co., Chicago, Illinois, c. 1945
Four seamed length of machine-woven canvas oil-painted on one side with depiction of a brown cow with two heads in a farm scene, below a yellow banner inscribed "TWO HEADED COW" and guaranteed "ALIVE" in a reserve at lower left corner, "C. HENRY TENT & AWNING CO / CHICAGO - 40 - ILL" written in black paint at lower right of the image, all four corners of the banner retain steel D-rings secured by leather straps riveted to the pieced canvas, which is reinforced on all edges with triple-stitched twill tape on the reverse, the top edge Velcroed to later rail for hanging, canvas, 95 x 68 1/4 in.
