Polly Dandy

Washo (Washoe), (19th/20th century), a polychrome degikup basket worked with an encircling stepped band flanked by stacks of diamonds, finished with diagonal stitches about the rim.
height 7in, diameter 10in

Footnotes

Attributed to the maker by Dr. Marvin Cohodas; accompanied by a copy of the letter dated February 14th, 2000, which reads in part: "Polly Dandy's work is documented both by a basket sold to G.A. Steiner in 1914 and by works once owned by her grand niece, Frances Brown, who worked for the Cohns. The shape and arrangement of color and design suggest that this basket was woven around 1910-1920."
