This unusual and detailed view of the Inner Harbour, on the west side of the peninsula of Macau shows Spanish and Portuguese shops alongside Chinese junks. The presence of the church of Saint Paulo, which was destroyed in a fire of 1835, helps to date the painting. On the far right is the temple of A-Ma (or Ma-Kok) from which the name 'Macau' is derived.
