A pair of Du Paquier or Vienna octagonal dishes, circa 1740-50

Both plates decorated with Shiba Onko, or "hob in the well" pattern, after a Japanese Kakiemon original, one child struggling to escape from a large jar, his companion about to throw a stone to break the jar and release him, the rim edged in dark red and brown and decorated with indianische Blumen, both 26cm diam. (2)

An identical plate with the shield mark in underglaze-blue is in the Gardiner Museum, Toronto (inv. L09.12.25), and another with the same pattern was sold in these Rooms, 14 November 2007, lot 214.
