A pair of Meissen pug dogs, mid 18th century

Modelled by J.J. Kaendler, facing one another, each seated on a cushion decorated with sprigs of indianische Blumen and moulded at the corners with gilt tassels, the pug on the left with its tongue hanging out and wearing an iron-red collar with gilt scrollwork, applied with three gilt bells and a blue ribbon, the other with a puce collar with gilt scrollwork and a turquoise bow, 11.5cm high; 9cm across (approx.), one with traces of crossed swords mark in blue (very minor restoration to one) (2)
