A Meissen teabowl and saucer, circa 1730

Finely painted with Kauffahrtei scenes of merchants and their wares by a quayside within a shaped gilt quatrefoil cartouche embellished with iron-red and purple scrollwork and hung with floral swags, the rims with gilt scrollwork borders, the inside of the teabowl with a circular medallion with flowerheads reserved on an iron-red trellis ground, the teabowl: 4.3cm high; the saucer: 11.8cm diam., crossed swords marks in underglaze-blue (within concentric circles on the saucer), gilt numeral 43. to saucer, impressed .. inside footrim of saucer, the teabowl with incised // (very minor flaking to gilt rims) (2)
