A Sèvres blue-ground ornithological dessert plate from the 'Sudell Service' (assiette à dessert), dated 1792
Painted by Charles-Théodore Buteux with a dove in the well, the blue-ground rim reserved with three panels enclosing two further birds and the Sudell family arms, surrounded by elaborate gilt scrollwork, the birds titled on the reverse, 21cm diam., interlaced LL monogram enclosing date letter PP in blue, painter's mark T.B. for Buteux and gilder's mark for L'Écot, incised marks (some wear)

The decoration of the service is after François Nicolas Martinet's illustrations for the comte de Buffon's Histoire naturelle des oiseaux which was published in ten volumes between 1770 and 1786.
