"I suppose everyone has a slight snob thing about American guitars, but I give credit to the Japanese in recent years for improving electronic circuits. Some of the active circuits in Ibanez guitars are very good."
- Rory Gallagher, Music Magazine, 1981.
The MC500 combined exotic-looking woods with natural finishes and a carved top. Solid brass hardware enhanced sustain, including the scalloped tailpiece. Pickups were Tri-Sound Super 88 humbuckers with an impressive array of controls. Two three-way mini-selectors offered regular humbucking function plus a coil tap and phase reversal for each pickup. A third switch activated a three-band EQ, with low, mid and high frequencies. All were controlled by a master volume. (Vintage Guitar), 2006.
