Formerly in the collection of a retired archaeologist, acquired circa 1970s.
By descent to his family, London, before December 1980.

Female portrait busts are more unusual than their male counterparts. This bust is bordered by a Pahlavi inscription. There is a chalcedony example in the British Museum also portraying a woman wearing a diadem with hair arranged in four long plaits, Museum no.119982.
