The Rolex GMT-Master was launched in 1954 after Pan American Airways asked Rolex to create a watch to allow pilots to track two time zones at once. This resulted in the first GMT-Master reference 6542 which became an icon amongst the pilot community. Rolex GMT-Master Ref.1675 then followed in 1959, with the replacement of the Bakelite bezels used in the original with for aluminum, and the first implementation of crown guards as well as the smaller triangular tip on the second hour hand. The current lot is one of the earliest examples of a Type 2 (SCOC) gilt dial version, featuring the exclamation point marker at 6'o clock on the dial. Glossy dial 1675s in this condition are becoming rarer, and this is a beautiful example for any GMT-Master and vintage Rolex lovers to consider.
