Footnotes

Marianne Ostier (1902-1976) was an Austrian-born jeweller, artist and author. After marrying Otto Osterreicher, later known as Olivier Ostier, a third generation jeweller serving the European elite, Marianne and her husband immigrated to the United States and founded Ostier Inc. She went on to win several awards for her unique creations as the house's head designer. Marianne was even chosen to represent the United States in a world exhibition which included important early 20th Century artists like Georges Braques and Salvador Dali. Until Olivier's death in 1968, the firm produced and retailed their exceptionally crafted jewels from their East 57th Street shop in New York.
