This bodhisattva embodies the qualities of a young prince in both his regal expression and Kushan turban ornamented with gems and a fan-shaped headdress. His nimbus and serene expression convey an idealized image of a divine and enlightened being. This type of turban was not restricted to any single bodhisattva and was used by Gandharan artists to portray a number of individuals including the bodhisattva Maitreya and Prince Siddharta. Another standing bodhisattva sold at Christie's, New York, 21 March 2012, lot 707, wears a similarly modeled turban with a splayed ornament.
