UNCUT EMBROIDERED BLACK SATIN YARDAGE FOR AN OFFICIAL SKIRT, CHAOFU
Late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911)
Finely worked in couched gold thread and multi-coloured satin stitch, depicting sixteen symmetrically placed dragon medallions below a thin band of pairs of confronted dragons and above a band of four five-clawed dragons contending a flaming pearl amidst the bajixiang, bats and vaporous ruyi-shaped clouds, above colourful waves and a narrow lishui band, with borders of fret-work pattern in tightly woven metallic-wrapped thread.
