A RARE LARGE GLAZED POTTERY FIGURE OF AN OFFICIAL
Sui Dynasty (581-618)
Standing upright, with his arms along his sides, wearing a long olive-glazed coat open to the front and revealing unglazed, bare feet, folded just below his chin, his helmet similarly glazed, his unglazed face with a stern expression, a long pleated beard falling in elaborate tresses over the lower part of his face and collar.

Compare with a glazed pottery figure of similar size and style, sold Christie's Paris, 12 December 2019, lot 170 where it is mentioned that the figure is similar to the one in the Tenri Sankokan Museum, Japan, illustrated in William Watson, Tang and Liao Ceramics, New York, 1984 p.211, no.231.
