RARE PETIT COFFRE À THÉ EN HUANGHUALI

XVIIe/XVIIIe siècle

A RARE SMALL HUANGHUALI TEA CHEST
17th/18th century
Of square form raised on short feet, the straight sides raised surmounted by a trapezoidal flat top, two sides set with a pair of hinged doors, each side divided into panels finely carved in low relief with individual mountain and river landscapes featuring scattered huts and pavilions amidst jagged mountains and craggy rockwork, villagers walking along the mountain paths, scholars in discussion by the cliff, and boatmen ferrying passengers across a river, the flat top finely carved with lotus leaves and scrollwork.

十七/十八世紀 黃花梨茶箱

This small cabinet is likely to have been used to store utensils used in the preparation of tea as a scene illustrated in a well known Song dynasty painting Literary Gathering by the emperor Huizong, now in the collection of the National Palace Museum, Taipei, shows (accession no. K2A000836N000000000PAA) (Fig. 1).
