Conveying serenity and elegance is this large Buddha head from the Ayutthaya period (1351-1767). In its oval face and heart-shaped hairline, this sculpture recalls the features of Sukhothai sculpture, whereas the small nubs of hair and nuanced grin are more characteristic of the Ayutthaya style.
Compare with a copper head sold in Bonhams, New York, 19 March 2019, lot 880, and another made of stone from the Claude de Marteau Collection, sold in Bonhams, Hong Kong, 6 October 2023, lot 60.
