A PAIR OF KO-IMARI TOKKURI (SQUARE FLASKS)

Edo period (1615-1868), late 17th/early 18th century
Each of square section with the sides decorated in underglaze blue, polychrome enamels and gilt over a clear glaze with mirror images of assorted fan-shaped panels enclosing figural and floral scenes scattered over a ground of squirrels scampering among fruiting vines and chrysanthemums, the high rounded sloping shoulder with alternating dragon and phoenix medallions on a foliate kinrande ground, the tall waisted neck encircled by a stiff leaf band. Each flask: 28.5cm (11¼in) high. (2).
