Roses and mannequins take centre stage in Durrani's works as seen in the present lot. Roses represent women, brimming with passion and value, whilst the headless mannequins symbolize society's relentless pursuit of perfection, reducing women to mere bodies. Through this artistic approach Durrani addresses feminist themes and has carved a niche for her unique style. Her works and technique are best summed up in her own words.
'My paintings are primarily done on "Wasli" a handmade paper based on traditional methods of paper making in the Mughal era. The subject of my work is on social issues regarding gender inequality and female identity while questioning regional customs and oppressive traditions regarding women.'(Ayesha Durrani in Art Here Istanbul, https://www.arthereistanbul.com/ayeshadurrani)
