Footnotes

Provenance
Property from a private collection, England.
Gifted by the artist to the vendor in 2014.

Qureshi's works are inspired by the tumultuous socio-political landscape of Pakistan. The present lot comes from the series that was initiated in 2010, after he witnessed the aftermath of a terrorist attack in a busy market place in Lahore. Central to his oeuvre is the signature motif of the 'blooms of blood,' a delicate floral pattern, rendered in a vibrant red hue that evokes beauty and violence. Trained in the meticulous techniques of the centuries-old art form of miniature painting, Qureshi infuses his works with a sense of history and cultural heritage while his innovative techniques and compositions push the boundaries of miniature painting into new and unexpected territories.
