A CHANGSHA JAR AND A BROWN-GLAZED JAR

Tang dynasty and later
The first, a cylindrical jar with a short neck and rolled rim, the rounded shoulder supporting a pair of loop handles, the pale greenish-brown glaze highlighted with dark iron and pale green dots around the body and stopping irregularly above the unglazed concave base; the second, a vase of elongated form decorated with vertical 'ribs', the shoulder set with four lug handles below a grooved neck and a rolled mouth, the thin caramel-brown glaze covering the interior and exterior stopping just above the neatly pared foot; together with a small Tang-style circular bronze mirror cast in deep relief with a squirrel and grape vine pattern.

5 1/2in (14cm); 7 1/2in (19cm) high; 3 3/4in (9.5cm) diam. (3).
