TWO ENAMELED 'LANDSCAPE' PORCELAIN PLAQUES
After Cheng Men (active 1862-1908)
Each rectangular and of horizontal orientation, the first painted principally in grisaille enamels and only touches of color with a figure on horseback traveling through a winter landscape of towering cliffs, a waterfall, and bare trees, the upper left inscribed with a poem related to the painted scene, dated Guangxun renwu (1882), signed Cheng Men, followed by two square seals painted in red; the other enameled in grisaille and pastel tones with a figure on a raft in a peaceful lake surrounded by formidable mountains, an additional figure seated within a humble hut with a thatched roof, the upper left corner inscribed with a poem echoing the depicted scene, signed Cheng Men, with two red seal marks.
