A WUCAI 'FIGURAL' CHARGER

Kangxi period
The wide, rounded body rising to an everted rim with a subtly barbed edge, painted with a narrative scene set on a terrace, at the center an elaborately dressed man donning a headdress issuing two tall feathers commanding attention and accompanied by a warrior with a sword, at the other end of the terrace a scholar-official bowing and extending his arms to protect two younger boys, the rooves of distant pavilions emerging from the clouds, the rim with 'crane' and 'ruyi' medallions against an iron-red diaper pattern, the reverse with peony boughs in iron-red and green enamel, the base with a leaf within a double-circle in underglaze blue.

14 1/2in (36.8cm) diam.
