A group of five large leaves from a dispersed manuscript of the Qur'an written in bihari script
Sultanate India, 15th-16th Century

Arabic manuscript on paper, five leaves (two conjoined), 15 lines to the page written in bihari script in black ink with diacritics and vowel points in red and black, verse-endings marked by gold roundels with blue dots, the word Allah written in gold outlined in black throughout, inner and outer margins ruled in gold, blue and red, illuminated marginal devices, extensive commentaries in Persian in outer margins, two leaves with a sura heading, one written in naskhi script in gold on a red cross-hatched ground and flanked by orange square panels, the other with a plain gold panel (apparently defaced of its text) flanked by orange square panels
