A Sultanabad underglaze-painted pottery bowl
Persia, 13th/ 14th Century

of deep rounded form on a tall foot, decorated in cobalt blue, turquoise and black on a white ground with a central rosette to the well encircled by a band of vegetal motifs surrounded by a band of alternating cartouches containing vegetal scrollwork and palmettes, the rim with a further band of vegetal motifs, the exterior with radiating lines alternately branching towards the rim and overlaid with dot motifs

The Collection of Bahram Mirza "Sardar-i-Massoud" (1885-1916), Paris, thence by descent.

The decoration on the present lot is comparable to that found on a Sultanabad dish in the British Museum, London, both featuring a rosette to the well and bands of vegetal motifs (Accession No. 1888,0413.4).
