A late 18th century mahogany table clock

John Bryan, Shadwell
The bell top case surmounted by a cast handle and four brass pineapple finials over a moulded cornice, fretted side panels and a moulded base on small ogee bracket feet, the front corners with applied metal mounts. The silvered Roman and Arabic dial with engraved acanthus leaf spandrels, the centre with similar leaf engraving around a tower, chamfered date aperture and blued steel hands, signed John Bryan Shadwell in the arch. The twin gut (now wire) fusee movement united by five knopped pillars, now with anchor escapement, and rack striking on a bell (the interior of the bell with previous repairers initials and dates), the backplate decorated with acanthus leaf and floral engraving, signed in a leaf cartouche John Bryan Shadwell. Ticking and striking, with a mahogany handled crank key and a case key. 53cms (20.5ins) high
