A Late 19th Century French Grande and Petite-Sonnerie Silvered and Lacquered Brass Repeating Carriage Clock With Three Limoges Enamel Panels

The case surmounted by a cast floral handle over the thickly bevelled rectangular escapement window, the top with cast bead and tulip border, above foliate tied columns and polychrome Limoges enamel panels depicting a courtly dressed man to the left hand side wearing a large lace collar and rich red doublet and hose; to the right hand side his partner wears a long blue gown with gilt highlights and a feathered hat, set on a cast tulip and bead topped base with narrow feet. The richly enamelled dial depicting another couple in courtly dress, with a castle between them, framing the blue and gilt Roman numeral plaques, the centre signed Chles Oudin Paris under brass poker and fleur des lys hands. The triple spring barrel movement with cut and compensated bi-metallic balance with jewelled Swiss lever platform escapement, the backplate with French directional engraving and silvered alarm dial inside the two coiled blued steel gongs. Ticking, with operational alarm, together with a double-ended winding key. 22cms (8.5ins) high
