A very fine first half of the 18th century walnut longcase clock
Daniel Quare and Stephen Horseman, London, No. 199
The stepped caddy top with brass ball-and-spire finials over blind cut frets, brass-mounted Doric three-quarter and quarter columns to the front and rear angles, the long door of particularly lively burr figuring within a featherbanded border and moulded edge, the base with similar veneered panel within a crossbanded border on double plinth. The 12 inch arched brass dial with large subsidiary date flanked by addorsed dolphin spandrels over the silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with floating lozenge half-hour markers and inner quarter-hour track, signed in polished reserve of the matted centre Dan Quare Ste. Horsman, London, No.199, with blued steel hands. The five pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack striking on the bell. Together with a pendulum, two weights (originally brass-covered, now painted black), two door keys and a crank winder. 2.8m (9ft 2ins) high.
