An ebonised musical table clock with six tunes playing on 26 hammers and 17 bells, 18th century and later

The 20th century ebonised case with stepped bell top and cone finials, the sides with substantial handles and silk-backed sound frets to a moulded base on brass ogee feet. The 7.5inch arched brass dial with silvered tune selection arc numbered 1-6 over twin subsidiaries for strike/silent and chime/silent, Roman and Arabic chapter ring, scroll and flower spandrels and a matted centre with mock pendulum aperture, chamfered date aperture and blued steel hands. The large movement with heavy knopped pillars, verge escapement, rack striking on a large bell, chiming the quarters and playing a tune on the hour on the 26 hammers and 17 bells via a 16.5cms (6.5ins) long pinned barrel running across the back of the movement. The backplate with single line border framing an elaborate pattern of foliate scrolls framing the signature Stepn. Rimbault, London.
