A rare 19th century Japanese hardwood striking pillar clock

The shaped cresting with suspension slot over a glazed hood with removable front glass panel over moulded throat pieces, the trunk sides with geometric pierced brass sound frets backed in green paper, (key drawer missing). The removable front panel with engraved brass scale and thirteen movable shaped numeral plaques, with descending pointer secured to the separate striking train contained within a brass box within the trunk, the solid countwheel visible on the frontplate above the recessed bell. The clock movement set within the hood and consisting of a four-wheel train terminating in a sprung balance visible through a horizontal aperture over turned brass corner posts, the frontplate pierced and engraved with climbing flowers, a silvered butterfly set on the escape wheel arbor rotating at the top. 51cms (20ins) high
