An early to mid 19th century Makura-Dokei in a glazed case
The outer case surmounted by a rectangular patinated metal handle on the slightly chamfered top, over a moulded edge and pierced and engraved sound apertures over glazed panels; both front and back doors sliding upwards to allow access to hand setting and winding, on a moulded base. The clock case of brass, with four turned corner posts between top and bottom plates. The floral engraved dial plate surrounding the manually adjustable silvered Japanese dial, the brass centre with fixed pierced steel hand under two small, chamfered, and engraved Japanese calendar apertures. The movement united by four turned pillars, with single gut fusee to the going train terminating in a verge escapement with large plain brass balance, the striking train with spring barrel driving an outside countwheel cut to strike from 3 to 8 blows on the hour, the backplate with further floral engraving and outside steel clicks. 22cms (8.5ins) high
