A good late 19th century French lacquered brass repeating carriage clock with enamel panels by H Doublet

E. Maurice & Co, No.8585
The reeded handle over a bevelled inspection panel and repeat button set on four stop-fluted Corinthian columns to a cast and stepped base. The dial with Roman cartouche numerals on a scarlet engine-turned ground and decorated with a reclining figure holding a lyre and a sheaf of papers entitled Poesie, both side panels signed H Doublet and depicting a dancing maiden with floral garlands. The movement with lever platform escapement striking and repeating on a gong. Ticking, striking and repeating. Together with a silk and velvet lined travel case and a (later) double-ended winding key. 20cms (7.75ins) high.
