A good and rare mid 19th Century English rosewood quarter striking travelling clock

The rectangular case surmounted by a facetted handle on scroll supports over a bevelled glass inspection panel and similar panels to the sides, on a stepped and ogee-moulded base on block feet. The 4 inch gilt Roman dial with engraved flowerhead half hour markers emanating from the decorated centre and framed by a running border and engraved sight ring, with blued steel moon hands. The substantial twin chain fusee movement with maintaining power to the going train, terminating in a jewelled English lever platform escapement with a robust cut and compensated bi-metallic balance sounding the hours and quarters on a pair of long blued steel gongs, the backplate signed and set with a steel hand for strike/silent. Ticking and striking. 27cms (10.75ins) high.
