A good early 19th century French gilt and patinated Harlequin clock
The movement numbered 4543.
The case depicting Harlequin wearing a mask of oversized eyebrows and moustache, in his patterned suit and sideways hat, leaning slightly on one leg, and mischievously pointing to the weight driven cuckoo clock supported on his hips, on a shaped plinth decorated with butterfly and scroll mounts on button feet. The 2.75 inch white enamel Roman dial with minute track and blued-steel 'Breguet style' moon hands surrounded by a cast bezel. The numbered circular movement united by four turned pillars, with silk suspended pendulum to the anchor escapement, and outside count wheel striking on the bell. Ticking and striking.
